BREAKING NEWS: Bollywood biggies come out to vote. Shahrukh Khan [flies down from South Africa, commendable, but I think it had more to do with his team’s losing spree or that wedding nobody is supposed to know about], the Bachchan family comes out in full force [with all of them wearing the same colour!], Amir Khan, John Abraham , Karan Johar, Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan and a few others from the paltan cast their VOTE!!!! And that is somehow remarkable; shouldn’t this go down as one of the “YOU-HAFTA-KNOW-ABOUT-THIS-DAY” days in Indian history?
Big-fucking-deal! Aren’t they as much citizens of this country as the rest of us, less mortals, are? Isn’t it a primary duty of everyone to cast their vote? Then why the tamasha? Oh right, because they have the power to influence us. They appear in advertisements and promotional/inspirational videos and encourage us to vote. They lead us by example. Is that why Mumbai, after all the blood drawing against the politicians after 26/11 saw a turn out of around 43%? Is that why Mumbai registered a turn out 4% lesser than the last elections? Methinks, there’s something wrong with the picture.

GIN SOAKED BOY
I'm the darkness in the light
I'm the leftness in the right
I'm the rightness in the wrong
I'm the shortness in the long
I'm the goodness in the bad
I'm the saneness in the mad
I'm the sadness in the joy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy
I'm the ghost in the machine
I'm the genius in the gene
I'm the beauty in the beast
I'm the sunset in the east
I'm the ruby in the dust
I'm the trust in the mistrust
I'm the Trojan horse in Troy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy
I'm the genius in the gene
I'm the beauty in the beast
I'm the sunset in the east
I'm the ruby in the dust
I'm the trust in the mistrust
I'm the Trojan horse in Troy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy
I'm the tiger's empty cage
I'm the mystery's final page
I'm the stranger's lonely glance
I'm the hero's only chance
I'm the undiscovered land
I'm the single grain of sand
I'm the Christmas morning toy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy
I'm the stranger's lonely glance
I'm the hero's only chance
I'm the undiscovered land
I'm the single grain of sand
I'm the Christmas morning toy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy
I'm the world you'll never see
I'm the slave you'll never free
I'm the truth you'll never know
I'm the place you'll never go
I'm the sound you'll never hear
I'm the course you'll never steer
I'm the will you'll not destroy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy
I'm the slave you'll never free
I'm the truth you'll never know
I'm the place you'll never go
I'm the sound you'll never hear
I'm the course you'll never steer
I'm the will you'll not destroy
I'm the gin in the gin-soaked boy
I'm the half-truth in the lie
I'm the why not in the why
I'm the last roll of the die
I'm the old school in the tie
I'm the spirit in the sky
I'm the catcher in the rye
I'm the twinkle in her eye
I'm the Jeff Goldblum in The Fly
I'm the why not in the why
I'm the last roll of the die
I'm the old school in the tie
I'm the spirit in the sky
I'm the catcher in the rye
I'm the twinkle in her eye
I'm the Jeff Goldblum in The Fly
Who am I?
The song is Gin Soaked Boy by The Divine Comedy. Neil Hannon (the band’s frontman and creator) has done a brilliant job with the lyrics and the vocals. My favourite lines in the song are ‘I'm the mystery's final page’, ‘I'm the why not in the why’ and ‘I'm the old school in the tie’. The song is addictive, I’ve heard it so many times, I know it by heart. :D

IPL - BOLLYWOOD AND MOOLAH before the cricket!!!
Switching the TV on when the match was in the 20th over with KKR needing 7 runs of 6 balls, 4 wickets remaining and Ganguly on strike, I thought the match was all but over for the Royals. It wasn’t supposed to end like that.Imagine my delight when Ganguly got out and the last ball saw a run out. This meant, the game wasn’t out of the hand, yet! That was good. The breathing was returning back to normal .Things could go our way in the super over [Incase it hasn’t been made clear, Rajasthan Royals were my favorites for the match].
Enter SUPER OVER: Kamran Khan’s given the ball. Was it the best option under the circumstances? I didn’t know. But I did know that I trusted Shane Warne at that moment. RR needed 15 runs to win. Gettable if we don’t screw up and we did have big hitters. Then came Yusuf Pathan and man, was he on a roll or what! The result, RAJASHTHAN ROYALS WIN THE FIRST SUPER OVER OF IPL!!! A loud whoop came and the victory dance followed. You can’t help but love this team. They did it last year, they are doing it again. And by the look of things, they might be able to pull off quite a few surprises off their socks in the coming games. Sometimes, you can only hope that they somehow turn the game in their favour and the other times, you give up that hope too, and then a miracle happens and they win. Only that these guys have make miracles seem so possible!
At the end of it, one naturally wants to watch the highlights of the game again and relive the moment over and over again. As a result, one turns to the news channels. The coverage IPL gets puts the elections to shame! Anyhoo, the disappointment I felt when I saw what most of the channels were showing was more than the disappointment of not being able to finish an exam off on time. The actual game had taken a back seat to Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra and their jubilation on how they beat Shahrukh Khan’s team!! Interview after interview of the two of them. To top it all, there was a question on how hard had Ms. Shetty held on to her beau’s hands in the super over. WTF! Give me a B.R.E.A.K!!Since when have they become more important than the cricket? Oh, my bad, since forever!!! Sure Bollywood’s bringing in the moolah, but so are the OTHER TEAM OWNERS [the non filmy guys] who don’t get half the publicity that the Bollywood backed teams do. They’ve bought expensive players too, so why should these teams hog all the limelight? Shahrukh Khan’s everywhere. He was everywhere last year too and it doesn’t look like it’ll change in many years to come. Didn’t he learn anything from last year? So much hype and publicity generally does end up working against you. Like somebody had said, he will haunt you in your dreams and be a part of your worst nightmares. Ms. Zinta is keeping mum this year only because her team has won only one match so far [something in me wishes that it stays that way, at least it’ll be one less celebrity to be bombarded with!].
The glamour is alright as long as it does not overshadow the game. It brings in the extra entertainment factor, sure. Probably brings in more viewers and money too, but there is a place for everything. Let cricket gets it’s due. Let the on-field do the talking rather than the off-field. Let it be about the players, the teams winning, losing, putting up a great fight and miracles happening!

erm...about nothing!
And just when I thought that I was done with exams for a long looong time, BHAAAM it comes and I get one shoved in my face. Life’s way of throwing right back at me. What? I don’t really know…exams obviously, but seems like a much bigger thing, you on a grander scale and all. It’s the exams talking, I swear. Seems like they’ve taken over me and sold my soul to the Devil, speaking of which I was watching this movie the other day in which Robert Di Nero ultimately is revealed as the Devil himself. He's a great guy,Mr.Di Nero, not the Devil [probably he's great too, you never know]. I think it’s called Angel Heart. Where did that come from? Je ne sais pas.Done with the latest and the lastest exam today [I had to give an oral exam too!]. Anyway, seems like it’s over for now.-crosses fingers and begs God to end it!-
It's vacation time finally and there are a whole lot of things to be done. I’ve even made a list, how much more dorky can I get? Not a lot of room for improvement left there. But right now, all I want to do is sleep and not wake up for the next couple of weeks [at least]. Peace out and make way for sleep!!

V.O.T.E!

So guess what? I just came back from the polling booth after giving my first ever VOTEEEEEEEE!!!!! To know that I’ve played a role, even if it’s as small as a drop of water in the ocean or as small as a grain of sand in the desert, [ MELODRAMA ALERT :D] in deciding my country’s future. I gave it a lot of thought and voted the right person, hopefully into power!!
There's this rush about knowing that this huge responsibilty of my country is placed on me and people around me, to know that WE are the reason are the reason why a few things will and won't happen in the future. Call it whatever you want, first-timers-enthu, idealism, it does not matter 'coz right now I'm high!!! :D

EXAMS and ELECTIONS!
When one has exams between 2:00-5:00 P.M in the afternoon in the month of March, one should realize that it ain’t going to be easy. And one knew that…the heat, the scorching sun, the water missing from the water bottles, the power cuts at the exam centre would only be the insignificant problems when compared to the EXAM itself. But boy, was one wrong! This year around, a brand new problem joined the “league of the problems”. Whoever thought that democracy would one day be a pain? That something that’ll decide the country’s future would hamper the present? Oh yeah, one is talking about the ELECTIONS and the hullabaloo that comes with it. [Is it just this time around, or has there been as much hype for elections all along?]
One is asked the reason for making such statements? Well, this is why. The routine of reaching the examination centre before time turned into a frantic-panic-stricken struggle to get there on time on more than one occasion during the exams this year. Everyday, there was a new reason for the mad run to the centre. It began with the election campaign [speeches for the poor on Day1, women on Day2 and youth on Day 3], then came the filing of the nominations and finally arrived the celebrities to endorse the nominee. One questions why all of this is to happen while the exams are going on and pat comes the reply that the elections are more important than the measly exams [Yay!! Something more important than the all-sucking exams!] And that one should have started early considering one knew about this. Well, one did exactly that. But starting almost three hours early for a journey that takes an hour tops and yet having to make the maddening dash should not have been a problem at all when there still was the EXAM to be written.
There probably are a trillion better ways in which one could have handled the said problem, but all one wants to do right now is fume about it. The parties that were responsible for this have definitely lost a few brownie points from all of one’s friends and one, because yes, one can vote in this election!! But one also realizes that voting is a huge responsibility and ought to be taken seriously. That one should place the power in the hands of the right people. So all those eligible to vote, should vote in the coming elections and bring the change that is needed. Like a certain Mr. Obama says, YES.WE.CAN! And we should.
Anyway, all’s well that end’s well. The exams are over and one survived them. Now, all there is to do is VOTE!

IT'S BEEN A WHILE...

Unlike my other posts, this has not been pre written or even given much thought to. This has to be one of my first impromptu posts. My writing is kinda rusty right now, haven’t written in quite a while. With exams and procrastination taking away the top spots, blogging has been pushed down, very unwillingly though, to somewhere at the bottom of the list…but hey, it still has a place, right?
Well, this post is about nothing in general. Just a way of getting back to writing. I do plan on writing more frequently and ‘expanding the blogs horizons’ in this vacation. Since I started the blog around a year and half ago, there have been quite a few changes. Both in me and my writing, which means there will be changes in here as well. I don’t think I’ll particularly stick to posting poems and an odd article here and there. From now on, I’ll post anything that catches my eye or I find interesting. Good, the plan is beginning to take shape now.
Anyway, I’ve been listening to a lot of new artists lately.Exams equals to double the music and I’ve been hooked to a few of them. Can’t stop listening and wonder what I did all my life without them, okay that’s exaggerating it. But seriously, some of these guys are pretty darn fantastic. One in particularly is this chap called Damien Rice. Never heard of him until a few months ago and I’m sure a lot of people haven’t heard about him either. He’s Irish and incredible. His songs have this feel to them, that makes you want to listen to them over and over again ‘coz every time you listen to them, there’s something new in them. Most of his songs feature Lisa Hannigan, another Irish artist and they compliment each other excellently, like they were born to sing with and for each other, especially in the track ‘Volcano’. Has to be one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long long time. ‘The Blower’s Daughter’ is another song that I can’t get enough of. He has released two albums [0 and 9 and the album covers are very innovative!] and I’m still to listen to a few of the songs. Can’t wait to download them.
So I guess that’ll do for this post.
